Kentucky Senate Approves Federal School Choice Bill

The Kentucky Senate has given final approval to House Bill 1, which opts the state into a federal school choice program. This program allows income-eligible families to donate up to $1,700 of their federal tax dollars to scholarship-granting organizations.

These organizations can then allocate funds to schools or districts for expenses like tuition, transportation, and supplies. Critics argue the bill diverts public funds to private or charter schools. Supporters claim it benefits public schools by providing families with more educational choices.

The bill now moves to the desk of Governor Andy Beshear, who has not stated whether he will veto it. If he does, the Republican supermajority in the legislature can override his decision.

Borden Lady Braves Competing for Second State Championship

The Borden Lady Braves are set to face Fremont in the state championship game at Gainbridge Fieldhouse. The tip-off is scheduled for 10:30 a.m.

After winning the Class A state title last season, the Lady Braves are focused on repeating their success. With five key starters returning as seniors, this close-knit team is ready to tackle the pressure that comes with being the defending champions.

Head coach Matt Vick expressed pride in the team’s growth and their ability to handle pressure throughout the season. Senior AJ Mallad noted that returning to the championship is less nerve-wracking this time. For senior Ava Wheeler, achieving back-to-back championships is especially significant for a small school like Borden.
